
Ollantaytambo!

Ollantaytambo, a historic Incan town nestled in Peru’s Sacred Valley, is renowned for its well-preserved archaeological site, a testament to Incan engineering and cultural heritage. The site features the Temple Hill, with its iconic Sun Temple, constructed from massive, precisely cut megaliths that continue to baffle researchers due to their size, intricate shaping, and the mysterious methods used to transport and place them. These megaliths, some weighing over 50 tons, were quarried from distant sites and fitted together with such precision that no mortar was needed, fueling mysterious construction techniques, Ollantaytambo stands as a striking example of architectural prowess, with the megaliths’ origins and transportation methods remaining an enduring enigma.
Logistics:
1/2 Day journey from Cusco. Easily accessible, but has a lot a stairs to climb to get the best view. Ollantaytambo is a starting point for a trip to Machu Picchu.
There are several other hikes to Incan and other Megalithic ruins nearby, and Ollantayambo can easily fill a full day.
